SLATER - (died 12 April 1917) George (Wesley) Slater, of Andover Borough, who for one term represented Green township on the large board of Freeholders, died last Thursday in St. Barnabas's Hospital, in Newark. He was about sixty-five years old. His wife died several years ago. Those survived are two sons, Alvin and William Slater, of Colorado. Funeral: Sunday, at the Andover M.E. Church. Rev. William Trumbower officiated. Interment : Newton Cemetery.

SLATER, James B., died on Thursday morning. His funeral services took place at his son's home, on Sunday afternoon, his pastor, Rev. William Stout, officiating, with interment at Newton. He is survived by a widow and one son, Freeholder George W. Slater, and one daughter, Mrs. Jacob WOLFE. He is also survived by three grandchildren and one brother, Joseph Slater, who resides in Newark.

SMITH, Amos died on Friday aged 83 years, 7 months, and 8 days. Born in Tranquility on 15 Mar 1806. Lived in Newton then moved to Stanhope in 1836, was married first to Hannah FIELDS, who died when their daughter, now Mrs. H. E. BELL of Newark, was only six weeks old. He was married secondly to Caroline H. WOODRUFF in 1834 having one son and three daughters: William M., Mrs. G.T. KNIGHT, Mrs. Harriet B. ROSE and Miss Helen. Amos was a founder of the M.E. church.

His wife survives with a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth YOUNG, of Middletown and two brothers, Charles J. SMITH, who lives at the Smith Homestead near Johnsons, NY and James H. SMITH of Middletown, NY. SMITH, Mrs. Hattie, died Friday last week in Newark aged 70. Widow of Jackson SMITH and is survived by six stepsons and stepdaughters: Richard SMITH, Morford SMITH, Robert SMITH and Mrs. Charles WATKINS in Newton; Mrs. Theodore HENRY, of Baleville, and Harry SMITH of Butler.

SMITH, Jesse R.,a former Newton resident, burned to death in his home between Morristown and Mendham on Wednesday last. Mrs. SMITH resided with her married daughter Mrs. Lucy FORSYTH, a small distance away. Mr. SMITH was 65 years of age, was born in Hardyston. He is survived by his widow, one daughter and one brother, Barton SMITH, of Dover.

SMITH, Thomas E., died at his home at Monroe, Sussex County, Tuesday, aged about 86 years. He was born at Hamburg, Nov. 18, 1848, a son of Dr. Franklin SMITH and Mary (NORTHRUP) SMITH, of Newton. He married three times, his first wife being Flora GREEN, his second wife Fannie WINANS and his present wife Mrs. Delia B. COLE. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, George W. SMITH, of Clifton and Heith SMITH of California. In his earlier years he lived in Newton and Stockholm, moving to Monroe after marrying the second time. Funeral: From his late home. Burial: North Hardyston cemetery.
